History of
Oaklea Mansion

Oaklea Mansion has long been a landmark of elegance and Southern hospitality in Winnsboro, Texas. Though the home itself traces its roots to 1903 as the historic Carlock House, its life as a bed and breakfast began nearly a century later.

In 1997, Oaklea Mansion was lovingly restored and opened to the public as a bed and breakfast by its devoted innkeeper, Norma Wilkinson. With a passion for preservation and a gift for hospitality, Norma welcomed guests from all over the country, creating a warm and memorable experience for everyone who crosses the threshold. Whether celebrating a special occasion or simply seeking a peaceful getaway, visitors were drawn to Oaklea’s timeless charm, antique furnishings, and quiet grace.

After 16 wonderful years, the bed and breakfast closed its doors in 2013, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of gracious service.

In 2022, Oaklea Mansion reopened with renewed spirit—honoring its past while embracing a new chapter. Today, it welcomes guests once again as both a bed and breakfast and an elegant event venue, offering curated experiences, intimate gatherings, and the same historic ambiance that has captivated visitors for decades.

Oaklea Mansion’s story is deeply connected to the Carlock House, the original name and identity of the home when it was built in the early 20th century.
